Our Origin Story

The S and S origin story starts over 60 years before the company began. Wendell’s grandfather, George Edward Shorthose began the family’s trucking legacy in the late 40s moving between California and Missouri working both rail & over the road.

His son, George Washington Shorthose would continue the trucking legacy in the late 60s starting on the docks in California breaking freight for Transcon before making is way back to Jefferson City and driving for Von Haufman Press by 1970.

Wendell would go on to be the third generation of Shorthose men in the freight industry beginning in 1990. He’d work the freight docks, dispatch loads and drive for another 10 years before beginning the 3rd party logistics company you now know as S and S NATIONWIDE, LLC.

At the heart of our company is an inside knowledge of the freight and logistics industry and a truly American-made family brand.

S and S embodies the American dream. Apple started in a garage, and S and S began in a humble basement office with nothing more than a fax, phone, green metal surplus desk and printer.

That and Wendell’s hard work, dedication and a commitment to quality is what built the foundation for S and S NATIONWIDE, LLC.

Wendell will tell you that it’s through passion and persistence that we succeed and he’s built a company culture that values both.

While it had simple origins, Wendell has grown S and S NATIONWIDE, LLC into a multi-office operation with nearly 30 employees.

Offices were expanded out of his home to Eldon, Missouri in 2004 then to a new larger office in 2017 when he began our sister company, US Machinery Moving, INC adding a fleet of our own trucks.

In 2019 our last expansion added a shipping hub in the heart of Jefferson City, MO with 40,000 square feet of dock space and 6 local trucks dedicated to shuttle cross-town loads our mid-Missouri customers.

Currently the company brokers an average of 150 loads per week hauling many of those themselves through our sister trucking company US Machinery Moving, INC.
